The Beginnings
The name The Phenomenal Hawk was initially Kenneth Louis Massey's artist name, created in 2019 after watching an Impact Theory interview featuring Darryl "DMC" McDaniels. During the interview, he discussed the influence of Marvel Comics on his life, emphasizing how Marvel taught him to "define yourself with an adjective and then tell the world who you are." This philosophy resonated deeply with me, inspiring the transformation of my artist name.
Before adopting the name The Phenomenal Hawk, Kenneth was known as Hawk Memphis, though most people simply called me Hawk. This name came to him in 2013 after praying for a new artist identity. Upon researching the meaning of "Hawk," he discovered that in Christianity, hawks symbolize divine guidance and serve as a reminder that we are being watched over from above. It is a call to seek God’s wisdom and guidance in our lives. Inspired by DMC’s words, he refined his artist name to The Phenomenal Hawk, symbolizing phenomenal wisdom and guidance from God.
Throughout his music career, he encountered significant barriers, including a lack of access to essential tools and limited knowledge of how to use them. Even when he identified the necessary tools, their costs were often prohibitively high. These obstacles inspired him to create a more accessible path, both for himself and for others facing similar challenges. Thus creating this company. With the limited tools at his disposal, he developed innovative approaches and honed the skills required to produce high-quality content.
For over 20 years, Kenneth studied, trained, developed, and refined his skills in multimedia content production. Every failure and challenge encountered, whether personal or experienced by those around him, became an opportunity to apply God’s wisdom and guidance to create seemingly impossible outcomes.
Beyond acquiring hands-on experience, Kenneth recognized the importance of having formal credentials to validate his expertise. He's earned a Media Communications Certificate from Full Sail University, an Associate Degree in Audio Production from The Los Angeles Film & Recording School, and is Pro Tools Certified.
